Need a fun learning activity? You’ve got it, friend!

Inside this post, I’ll share exactly how tape can transform your blocks into a fun learning activity for your kids. Psst…it’s basically beginning geometry for preschoolers on your floor! Yes, really.

Ready for some easy fun? Let’s go!

Full disclosure: This is the easiest math activity that you’ll ever set up.

If you have a child learning common core math in elementary school, then you know what I mean! Common Core math and I are NOT besties…

In fact, I’m relieved that I get to do some fun (not to mention low-prep) activities with my toddler before my son starts elementary school because those math strategies make me feel like I know nothing. Even though math was my favorite subject! HA!

So, let’s take a collective deep breath…

*in and out*

Whew. That feels better.

The truth is that preschool math is ALL about exposure and play. So, the pressure is really off here. We just have to make it fun. 🙂

So, what does a fun learning activity for MATH look like for your preschooler??

In my opinion, it’s anything HANDS-ON like:

  • Playing with shapes.
  • Puzzles.
  • Building.
  • Counting.
  • Sorting.
  • Classifying.
  • Measuring.

These are the literal building blocks for understanding key math concepts that your child will need to know when they enter kindergarten.

But, don’t worry!

This doesn’t have to be difficult.

The main thing I want you to remember here is that your preschooler learns best through play. So, setting up a simple activity like this one is a win/win: It’s easy on you, fun for your child, AND exposing your child to shapes.

Easy enough, right?!

Now, let’s set this activity up…

  • Magnatiles or magnetic shape blocks <— affiliate link to Amazon to make it easy for you to find.
  • A floor or table

How to Set Up this Fun Math Activity for Your Preschooler

Now, all you need to do is a little prep to set up the tape…

  1. Build the shapes that you want out of Magnatiles FIRST.
  2. Then, tape around the edges of your shapes.
  3. Remove the Magnatiles and you’ll be left with tape outlines.
  4. Let your child put the pieces together to fill in the shapes!

That’s it!

Now, you know a simple way to set up a fun learning activity for your preschooler without making it hard on them OR on you!

Next, we’ve just got to figure out how to simplify teaching common core math. Then, it’ll be smooth sailing for all of us…
