{DIY Fabric Beads} Making Jewelry with Kids

Uncategorized

I adore making jewelry with kids.

Particularly because I get to make jewelry for myself, too!  My daughter is obsessed with making jewelry, so we’ve tried lots of different methods.  When I saw fabric tape at the craft store, I knew that I could make some adorable, cheap DIY beads for her!

These no-glue fabric beads make the perfect handmade jewelry crafts for kids

I can’t believe how quickly we made these DIY fabric beads.  My daughter loved practicing her scissor skills to make these beads!

Materials for Making Jewelry

  • Fabric Tape
  • Straws
  • Scissors

Make your own fabric tape beads

How to Make Fabric Beads

  1. Cut a strip of fabric tape to match the length of your straw
  2. Peel back the tape and place the straw on the longest edge of the tape
  3. Roll the straw on the tape so that it gets covered in fabric
  4. Cut the straw to make beads

Note: The width of my tape left a little straw showing.  It didn’t both me, but be sure to get wide enough tape if it would bother you!!

My daughter and I chatted while we were making jewelry together, so I don’t have any pictures of us making these bracelets.  Activities like these have become such precious time for us to connect.

If you want to make a bracelet or necklace like we did, all you need is some thin thread.  We received our thread for free from Craft Project Ideas.  I just love all of the colors that come with their friendship thread.

Note: I don’t make money from you clicking those links above, but I do receive a free box of craft supplies.  Regardless, I adore their company.  They have the nicest people representing them and that matters!!

Making jewelry for kids 7My daughter wanted to hold my hand while we showed off our matching bracelets.  She said, “I want to take a picture with my Mommy, please!”  And, let me tell you, I’ll cherish that forever!!

If you like projects like these, check out how we love making jewelry that glows!!
