I am always looking for fun halloween treats for my kids that don’t include a bag of candy.
While I’m not entirely against candy (I’m a moderation kind of gal), I don’t love when all they have is candy during Halloween. That’s why I was thrilled to team up with Organic Horizon Milk. Not only do my kids LOVE Organic Horizon Milk, but they’re individual milk boxes inspired one of my favorite Halloween treats so far. The second my husband brought home a big pack of chocolate milks, I knew exactly what to do…
I ran straight for my construction paper stash while keeping an eye on the chocolate milks piled on the table. My toddler has been known to swipe a milk or two when my back is turned…can’t blame him.
I quickly folded the paper into fourths (because I avoid measuring and cutting paper at all costs ~ folding is just SO much faster!).
I realized that one fourth of my paper fit snuggly around the chocolate milk container while still revealing the straw.
Yesss, I thought, this not-so-crafty Momma might have a winner here.
Growing Up with a Simple Halloween Carnival
When I was a little girl, I couldn’t wait for our Elementary school Halloween carnival.
The games, the friends, the copious amounts of candy…it was my dream come true (and, I don’t even really like candy…).
My favorite game was getting to pick a lollipop ghost. I can’t even remember what the game was, but I remember how clever I thought it was to put a piece of tissue paper on top of a lollipop and draw a ghost face.
Genius, I remember thinking. simple activities during holidays can mean so much to kids. And, my toddler told me right away what a hit these milks were…
When I started adding eyes to the milk containers, my toddler started squealing: “MONSTER MILK!! That funny, Mommy!”
He quickly ran out of the room running super fast only to come right back…
“MOMMY! HAHA! That MINE monster milk!”
Soon, he was walking out of the room talking away to his Horizon Milk Monster. It’s amazing how just a few strips of construction paper can completely make my two year old’s day.
But, I have to admit, his smiles and squeals made my day too.

How to Make Fun Halloween Treats: Milk Monsters
Even though my toddler was able to see the milk monsters early, I cut up more construction paper so my oldest could make a monster milk when she got home from school.
Firstly, I folded each piece of construction paper in half lengthwise (like a hot dog) then in half widthwise (like a hamburger). When I unfolded the paper, I was left with 4 rectangles. Then, I cut each rectangle out.
One rectangle wraps perfectly around a milk container, so I used the spare rectangles to cut out shapes for eyes, mouths, and hair.
Lastly, I set out some tape and glue for my daughter to use when she got home.
Tip: Tape the construction paper down the back to secure both side of the construction paper
It was a hit for her too!
My daughter layered the eyes and wanted me to help her make a “spooky” mouth. She added some eyelashes with a marker and then shrieked with joy when she saw the results.
I’ve never seen my kids happier to see a monster before…
It was such a simple way to bring a little joy and celebration into our home this Halloween.
