Birthdays are the happiest occasions for kids, but coming up with inexpensive birthday party ideas isn’t always easy.
Your little one’s excitement for his/her big day begins months in advance (am I right?)! On the one hand, your kid awaits his birthday with great eagerness, and on the other, the thought of the day might make you extremely anxious. How will you plan such a great party in such little time? What activities will keep the kids entertained? What gifts will you give your little one’s friends? How expensive will the party turn out to be? Ah, there are just too many things to be worried about with too little time on your hand. That’s where I come in! I have compiled a list of seven fun birthday party ideas, that won’t drill a hole in your pocket, yet ensure that the party is a great hit amongst the kids.
7 Birthday Party Ideas for Preschoolers
Photo Booth Fun
Want to capture every beautiful moment of your little one’s birthday bash? Here’s a way you can do just that, by creating a photo booth in your backyard! Get your partner’s help to build a booth using cardboard sheets and create a vibrant backdrop with a colorful bedcover. Decorate the booth with some shimmery streamers and fill it up with funky masks and a lot of fun party props. You can use your digital camera to click the pictures of the kids. Character Play
Is your kid a great fan of superhero films and cartoons? Well, then he’s sure going to be super thrilled about the idea of having a character costume party! Ask all the tiny tots to come dressed up as their favourite character from the movies, cartoon, or book character. Give each one of them 2 minutes to introduce themselves and see if they can guess who their friends are disguised as! Then, play simple games like a scavenger hunt, a relay race, or musical chairs. You can choose the decor of the party based on the character that your kid chooses to be!
The Art Corner
When the outcome is going to be something totally adorable, you sure don’t mind the kids getting their hands dirty! An art corner is an amazing addition to your child’s birthday party, and can even work as the central theme. You can allocate a huge space in your garden, porch, or even indoors for the art corner. Stock it with art supplies like coloring sheets, drawing sheets, non-toxic paints, brushes, pencils, crayons, glitter, glue, plastic scissors and old cloth. Let the kids have a ball creating their own little masterpieces. Send home an inexpensive watercolor set and paint brush as party favors!
Candy Land
Pulling off a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory may not be as hard as you think! Go to the stationery store and pick up tons of cheap supplies like shimmery wrapping sheets, paper plates, colors, cupcake holders, etc. Crush old newspapers into balls and wrap them up with shimmery wrapping papers in the shape of candy. Hang them on the walls. You can also decorate the place with paper plate lolly pops by drawing colourful swirls on the plates and sticking craft sticks on them. You can put candies in cupcake holders, wrap with cellophane, and send home for favors!
Get Sporty
A sport themed party is a refreshing change from the usual games kids play these days (aka video games). You can decorate by sprawling footballs around, hanging plastic bats from the walls and using beach balls in place of balloons as decor. You can plan fun activities like tossing balls into baskets, dribbling until the music stops, kicking a football the furthest and climbing across obstacles made with sofas and chairs. When in doubt, throw lots of different balls on the ground and the kids will have a lot of fun. Exercise balls are great, too!
Party Like The Rockstars
Give the budding singers and dancers a chance to harness their talent with a rockstar party! Decorate the place with old CDs hanging from the walls, neon glow signs, a DIY disco ball, and a DIY microphones made by using crushed foil and empty paper towel rolls. Download some karaoke tracks (songs the little ones would know of), rehearse some dance moves and be ready to rock and roll with the kids. Lead the dance troop and ask the little dancers to follow your moves. Then let them get together and sing some of their favorite songs. You can even give them star shaped plastic sunglasses, furry necklaces, crowns and beads to wear!
Balloon Mania
This activity is going to be the highlight of your kids’ birthday party! All you need are equal numbers of balloons as the number of kids invited to the party. While blowing the balloons, drop in pieces of paper specifying different challenges. Play some music and ask the kids to pass on a balloon to each other, without letting it touch the ground. Once the music stops, the last kid holding or touching the balloon has to pop it and complete the challenge inside. Continue the game till all the kids perform a challenge! These ideas are so cute – and the beauty of it is that preschoolers are so thankful and so forgiving – things don’t have to look perfect. They just love FUN and games!
