Sibling relationships were on my mind the minute I found out that I was pregnant with my second child.
I’m sure that I was worried about how my daughter would bond with the baby, but beyond that, I truly hoped that my kids would have a healthy relationship long after childhood. I think that’s why their relationship has been our priority. Although, I’m not sure that we realized that until my husband made this comment…
“When we see our kids happy together, it only strengthens our relationship.” <—genius husband quote.
He’s right.
All of the members in our family benefit from each other getting along, but my husband and I gain so much from seeing our kids happy together. I truly believe it’s because we know we are setting them up for a life long relationship. One that will last long after we are no longer alive.
So, why are sibling relationships the most important in our family?
Because their relationship is the longest relationship they will ever have with another family member.
Their relationship will last longer than with me, longer than with my husband, longer than with any girlfriend or boyfriend…it is a precious relationship and, we believe, it’s our top priority to give it the best start possible because (God willing) they will be together for a very long time!
But, I’m curious…
