My husband has made an effort to do father daughter dates.
Our daughter is growing so quickly and father daughter dates have become an important time for my husband to have one-on-one time with our little girl. But, truthfully, dates can get costly. That’s why we love these simple ideas to have dates right from home!
Play Time
How simple is this?? Imagine setting up a pretend tea party or having your daughter’s favorite activity set up just for her and Dad. Dress up, get excited, and be ready to play. It’s a date that’s sure to build great memories for both of you.
Have a Sleep Over…in the Living Room
Pop some pop corn, grab your favorite movie, and sleep under the stars (well, I mean roof). We set up cozy sleeping arrangements in the living room. It’s a great first experience for little ones who haven’t gone to a slumber party yet and it’s a great way to make lasting memories with your kids.
Dance the Night Away
Get dressed up and play her favorite music. We love to blast music from our iphones with pandora. Our daughter always requests “wedding music” so we consider it great practice for the future (far, far away future!).
Make Frozen Yogurt at Home
My husband and daughter often go out for dates to our local frozen yogurt, but we thought it would be just as special (and healthier) to make frozen yogurt treats at home.
Bonus: they’re perfect for Moms who need a little sweet treat while the kids nap, too – just saying…
Take Out the Baby Books
Take out any baby pictures that you had as a child and then grab your daughter’s baby book, too. Tell your favorite memories of when she was a baby and see if there’s any resemblance between your photos.
Work in the Garden
Take your date outside and work in the garden. If you don’t have a garden yet, but sure to grab a few flowers in your daughter’s favorite color to plant with her on your date. Don’t have a yard? Grab some pots to plant the flowers in instead or check out our favorite garden plants for kids.
Share Your Hobby
Love to play an instrument, throw frisbees, make bread, or something else? Set up an activity that is all about your favorite hobby. It’s such a great opportunity to share passion with your little one and help them to discover their own passion, too.
Go to the Garage
Take your date out to the garage and build something together! Learn the basics of holding a hammer, using a screwdriver, or painting. There is so much to teach when you head out to that space! And, if you don’t have a garage or your garage is full, bring something fun to build inside.
Play Your Favorite Game
Share your favorite board game or card game with your daughter. You might just find that you both love the game and it can become a tradition!
Make Frozen Yogurt:
- Grab Yoplait Greek 100 – if you can find the strawberry cheesecake it is HEAVENLY, but all of my stores were sold out (because they are HEAVENLY…seriously…). We chose mixed berry because it’s delish.
- Chop strawberries and put in the bottom of a silicon container (no silicon? try ice cube trays instead).
- Add the yogurt on top to fill each cube.
- Freeze and enjoy!
- Want it extra smooth? Put your yogurt through an ice cream maker.
I love that on this Father Daughter date, my family got to talk about healthy, tasty treats.

Oh wow, I love this post. Now that my daughter is almost 2 1/2 years old, my husband is really starting to connect with her a lot more! Last weekend they actually went tent camping in the basement. He pitched the tent, picked out a special pink sleeping bag for her, popped popcorn, got out the lantern.. everything. It was awesome!
