I’ve been wanting to write a kid’s nature bucket list for my kids.
After my daughter went to an outdoor camp for preschoolers, I was really inspired by the program and I wanted to start writing our bucket list right away. We’ve been trying to take our summer days slowly and to spend as much time outside as possible, so it’s been easy to start tackling our list. But, with two growing kids in tow, I always have to be prepared.
When Horizon snacks, a Happily Ever Mom sponsor, reached out they asked us to share how we’re feeding our kid’s imaginations this summer. And, for my kids, their imaginations soar when they’re outdoors. As long as I have snacks packed in the backpack along with their water bottles, my kid’s will stay outside for hours. So, pack your snacks and read along to find out our nature bucket list for this summer.
“I can climb a tree, Momma!”
My five year old proudly clung to the tree bark as she called down to me. I hadn’t seen her face light up like that in a very long time.
After one short week of outdoor camp, my cautious and calculated preschooler was a tree climber. Her not so cautious and not so calculated two year old brother quickly followed her up the tree too, but that’s another story…
What You Need Before Starting a Nature Bucket List
- Grab waters, snacks (we love the peanut butter sandwiches from Horizon Organic snacks), sunscreen, and a backpack.
- Add a notepad, some colored pencils, a small watercolor pallet, paintbrush, or anything to write and draw with.
- Then print the bucket list at the end of the post and get inspired!
- Extras: butterfly wings (like my daughter’s wings), small bags for nature collections, binoculars, hats, capes or towels as capes, and anything that sparks imagination for your child.
If there’s one thing that both my husband and I want to pass onto our kids, it’s a love of nature.
This list is such a great way to encourage kids to get outdoors and explore this summer!

After you’ve done the nature bucket list, celebrate with a nature party!
And, no party would be complete without the snacks, right?

I LOVE these ideas. My kids will LOVE them, too. Yesterday we searched for big cuts from some of the trees cut down around our place. My 9yo was begging for more nature adventures. I am a visual person, though. I need pictures and more information on what some of these are. I guess that is what a Pinterest search will help me do! Thanks for the starter ideas!

I’m so glad you love them, Holly! I’m a visual person as well. I’ve started collecting my favorite nature activities and I’ll be sure to put them together in a big, visual round-up for people like us 🙂
