Hi Everyone!
For my family, it’s all about Halloween AND Pinkalcious this week! We are throwing a Giveaway that you can enter here and, let’s just say, it’s super tasty 🙂 The book and the giveaway inspired me to make this DIY cupcake clip my daughter. We will make more for her friends that are coming to our Pinkalicious party – I can’t wait! A big thank you to my awesome sister in law who made DIY clips for my daughter out of fabric! You inspired these little cupcakes 🙂
Stay tuned for the post on Sunday when we announce the winner of the Giveaway!
So here it is: my quick and easy, no-sew, felt and glue cupcake clip. Hmmm…that was a bit of a mouthful! Speaking of mouthful, doesn’t this look delicious??
1.) I used glitter felt for the base because it’s much stronger and it’s so adorable! I made a rectangle that was wide enough to cover the width of the entire clip.
2.) Then, I cut a white piece for the frosting that was the same width (the length of the clip), but not quite as tall.
3.) I free handed the rounded part of the “frosting” with scissors, but you could use a bowl to outline the curved edges. I cut BOTH pieces of felt – remember, the white is on top of the pink.
**What you don’t see pictured in the above picture is that I free handed a little scalloped edge here.
Then, I took a marker cap to trace and to make a small circle for the cherry and glued the cherry on top.
4.) I applied a small dap of glue to both the top and the bottom of the clip (I didn’t put glue along the whole clip because the felt needs to be able to bend in the middle when the clip is opened and closed). I applied the glue while the clip was OPEN so I didn’t glue the clip together! And, I applied the felt cupcake on top while it was still open. I just used hot glue here because it’s my go-to glue, but something stronger would be lovely, too.
That’s it! Enjoy your cute little cupcake clip! And, you know what’s hilarious? I used my daughter’s scissors to cut the felt! They are the sharpest ones in the house because they are newer and they are tiny so it was easy to do the curves. If you want to know a great secret to cutting felt check out this post here from the blog, Juggling with Kids. I will post a picture of this clip in my daughter’s hair tomorrow – she’s going to love it!
Don’t forget to sign up for our Giveaway – Good luck!!
