Did you know that April is Distracted Driving Awareness month?
When I heard about the campaign to drive distraction free for a whole week, I knew that I had to join the pledge. In fact, a day or so before I heard about the pledge, I glanced at my phone in the car because I had just heard an email alert on my phone. I was at a stop light, so I didn’t think much about looking at my phone, but my daughter yelled, “That’s not safe, Mom! You’re not supposed to look at your phone while you drive.”
She was right! It might have been a glance, but that glance was enough of a distraction to stop me from paying attention to the road. And, that’s not okay…
It’s Distracted Driving Week #callskill
So, what does this pledge mean?
It means that you pledge to drive distraction free for one whole week. I took the pledge last week and I’m so glad that I did!
I realized early in the week that I was driving with more focus and intention. Just having my cell phone sitting on the passenger seat is too much of a distraction for me (as a blogger, our phones are constantly getting alerts!!). So, I put my phone in my dashboard and I noticed a huge difference. I just didn’t feel so frantic and rushed in the car which is so important for driving more safely.
Join the Pledge
Will you please join me in taking NSC pledge to drive cell free? Will you post the pledge on Facebook and/or Twitter?
Everyone who takes the pledge in April will be entered into weekly drawings for:
- NSC First Aid, CPR & AED Online course
- Alive at 25 Parent Program Online course
- A backpack full of safety items for kids
- A stuffed animal donated by KidsAndCars.org
And, one last thing…share this pledge with the people you love.
I strongly believe that driving is something that we can take for granted, but it’s so important to remember how much safety matters not only for you and your family, but for all the families driving around you.
