It was a challenging week with the kids, preschool, meal-planning, schedules, classes, activities, keeping up with friends, spending time with family…
So we planned a “Moms’ Night In” and had the pleasure of enjoying a sneak preview of a few episodes of Bravo’s new scripted comedy, Odd Mom Out while sipping a few “Mom-osas.”
We wore our sweats, chatted about the maddening nature of parenting, the pros and cons of preschool activities and the blessings of families.
The show fit our mood perfectly and now that we are hooked, we may have to make Odd Mom Out our regular event.
What is the New Show Odd Mom Out About?
Odd Mom Out celebrates (and satirizes) many of our feelings and more. Jill Weber, the main character, is a stay-at-home mother in New York City. She accepts her individuality in a sea of competitive, wealthy preschool parents while trying to relate to her own privileged, elitest in-laws. The humor and absurdity in the situations in which Jill often finds herself encouraged us to question some mainstream parenting philosophies.
Jill finds balance by chatting with her single friend, Vanessa. A quick-witted, cynical emergency room doctor, Vanessa seems to enjoy listening to Jill’s tales of parenting and family drama. The friendship is mutually beneficial since Jill takes vicarious pleasure in Vanessa’s dating escapades and commitment-phobia. Their healthy and sometimes unlikely friendship is a reminder that maintaining friendships can help us become better parents and partners.

Of course, we’ve all been there.
We have felt like our parenting friends are different from us. We have felt like our friends without children are different from us. We have tried to “fit in” while we tried to maintain our individuality as a parent. We have experimented with how we fit in our own family.
Feeling isolated while also raising a family seems like a paradox, but the reality is that many of us find ourselves with those feelings.
What do we do about it?
Visit each other in our sweats, chat about life and watch Bravo’s Odd Mom Out. Oh, and don’t forget the mom-osa!

I am sitting here and work wondering if it isn’t Mom-osa time yet… it has to be about that time!
The show sounds AWESOME.
